The Hadoop Administrator position represents a critical role in managing and optimizing large-scale data systems for enterprise analytics platforms. As a Hadoop Administrator, you will be responsible for overseeing the installation, configuration, maintenance, and security of Hadoop ecosystem components to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of organizational data. This position is a contract opportunity with the potential for extension or conversion to a full-time role, working remotely and supporting business operations during Eastern Time Zone hours.

The primary project focus for this Hadoop Administrator role centers on implementing Iceberg and supporting analytics-based projects within the EDS division. The position requires advanced knowledge of SQL, Spark, and Linux operating systems. Familiarity with data science tools is highly preferred and will enhance your ability to contribute to the organization’s evolving data strategies.
As a Hadoop Administrator, you will administer database systems, perform installations and upgrades, design and implement backup and disaster recovery procedures, and maintain and tune query languages for established platforms such as Starburst Trino. You will also ensure the security and performance of the Hadoop ecosystem, automate manual tasks, and manage disk space efficiently.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Administer and maintain Hadoop clusters and associated ecosystem components
- Install, configure, and upgrade database systems and software
- Design and implement data modeling, adhering to recognized standards
- Develop and execute robust backup and disaster recovery procedures for Hadoop environments
- Monitor system performance and tune databases to optimize efficiency
- Manage database connectivity, security, and access controls
- Automate repetitive and manual administrative tasks to increase operational efficiency
- Coordinate software patching and upgrades to maintain system integrity
- Oversee disk space utilization and proactively address storage needs
- Support analytics platforms, primarily through SQL and Spark

Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in an IT-related field or relevant, equivalent work experience
- 3-5 years of database administration (DBA) experience required
- 5-8 years of Hadoop administration experience required
- Strong expertise in SQL, Spark, and Linux operating systems
- Exposure to data science tools highly preferred
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Permanent work authorization in the United States is required
- No consideration for C2C, 3rd-party, or 1099 candidates
