General Surgery PA/NP - Summary
- Provide comprehensive surgical care in collaboration with physicians and multidisciplinary teams.
- Manage preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative patient care responsibilities.
- Utilize advanced clinical skills to support surgical and medical decision-making processes.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Conduct patient histories and physical examinations for surgical candidates.
- Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests and lab results.
- Assist attending surgeons during operative procedures as first or second assist.
- Develop and implement treatment plans for preoperative and postoperative patients.
- Perform wound assessments, suture removal, dressing changes, and minor bedside procedures.
- Educate patients and families regarding surgical procedures, post-op care, and recovery expectations.
- Collaborate with medical staff, nursing, and ancillary teams to coordinate patient care and discharge planning.
- Document patient encounters, interventions, and progress notes accurately in the electronic medical record.
- Participate in rounds, case conferences, and quality improvement initiatives as required.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program.
- Current and unrestricted licensure as a PA or NP.
- Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) or American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or equivalent.
- Previous experience in general surgery or surgical subspecialties is preferred but not required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications.
- Strong clinical judgment, organizational skills, and attention to patient safety.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented clinical setting.
