The Gastroenterologist (MD/DO), GI Hospitalist Locum will be responsible for delivering specialized care to patients with gastrointestinal disorders. The role includes managing inpatient consults, performing a variety of endoscopic procedures, and collaborating closely with medical assistants, registered nurses, and advanced practice providers. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong record of recent procedural competency, possess excellent communication skills, and thrive in a collaborative hospital setting. Epic and Dragon EMR experience is preferred for seamless integration into the team.
Assignment dates are currently available for January, February, and March, with an orientation date provided in advance. Travel arrangements are covered, and expedited onboarding is available to ensure a smooth credentialing process. Gastroenterologist (MD/DO), GI Hospitalist Locum - Summary

Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide inpatient and consultative gastroenterology services as a GI hospitalist locum
- Perform advanced endoscopic procedures, including diagnostic and therapeutic ERCP, EGD, colonoscopy, polypectomy, hemostasis, esophageal dilation, flexible sigmoidoscopy, PEG placement, tumor ablation, pneumatic dilation, and stent placement
- Maintain thorough and accurate patient records using Epic and Dragon EMR
- Participate in 7am to 7am call coverage as required
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including medical assistants, registered nurses, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants
- Demonstrate a high level of professionalism and clinical expertise in managing a varied patient census
- Complete any required orientation and adhere to hospital policies

Qualifications & Requirements
- MD or DO degree with completion of an accredited gastroenterology fellowship
- Board certified or board eligible in gastroenterology
- Active Michigan medical license required at the time of assignment
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Recent experience providing inpatient or consultative GI services for at least 24 patients in the past 12 months
- Documented procedural experience in the following within the past 12 months:
- Diagnostic EGD: 100 procedures
- Total Colonoscopy: 100 procedures
- Snare polypectomy: 20 procedures
- Nonvariceal hemostasis: 10 active bleeders, 20 total procedures
- Variceal hemostasis: 5 active bleeders, 15 total procedures
- Esophageal dilation with guide wire: 15 procedures
- Flexible sigmoidoscopy: 25 procedures
- PEG placement: 10 procedures
- Diagnostic ERCP: 75 procedures
- Therapeutic ERCP: 25 procedures (including 20 sphincterotomies and 5 stent placements)
- Tumor ablation: 20 procedures
- Pneumatic dilation for achalasia: 5 procedures
- Esophageal stent placement
- Familiarity with Epic and Dragon EMR systems preferred
