Gastroenterologist (GI Specialist) Job Overview
Our healthcare organization seeks a board-eligible or board-certified Gastroenterologist (GI Specialist) for a full-time opportunity in southeast Mississippi. The Gastroenterology team specializes in diagnosing and treating conditions affecting the gastrointestinal tract, including the liver, stomach, intestines, and colon. The GI Specialist will play a critical role in providing comprehensive care for a diverse patient population, addressing a range of digestive and liver disorders. Working within a collaborative environment, the Gastroenterologist will be supported by dedicated nursing and medical assistant staff in both inpatient and outpatient care settings.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate, diagnose, and manage patients with gastrointestinal disorders, including appendicitis, fecal incontinence, hemorrhoids, liver diseases, and pancreatic diseases.
- Provide care in both inpatient and outpatient settings, ensuring continuity and quality of care for all patients.
- Conduct an average of 24 patient consultations per day in the clinic and manage an average of 6 consults and 8 subsequent visits per day in the hospital.
- Perform approximately 16 endoscopic procedures in the outpatient setting regularly.
- Utilize Cerner electronic medical records (EMR) system for all patient documentation and care coordination.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including registered nurses and certified medical assistants, to deliver patient-centered care.
- Participate in on-call rotation as needed to ensure comprehensive coverage for gastroenterology patients.
- Engage in quality improvement initiatives and departmental meetings to enhance patient outcomes and operational efficiency.
Qualifications
- Board Eligible or Board Certified in Gastroenterology (BE/BC).
- Completion of an accredited fellowship in Gastroenterology is required.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with clinical teams in both hospital and outpatient practice settings.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to provide compassionate care to a diverse patient population.
