We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Gastroenterologist (GI) for a locum tenens, inpatient-only assignment. As a Gastroenterologist (GI) in this locum tenens capacity, you will manage a diverse array of gastroenterological conditions and perform advanced procedures in a collaborative and well-supported hospital environment.

Working as a Gastroenterologist (GI) - Inpatient, Locum Tenens, you will join a multidisciplinary medical team, including Hospitalists and Intensivists, to deliver comprehensive care to patients requiring urgent and emergent GI interventions. This assignment does not include outpatient clinic duties, allowing you to focus entirely on acute inpatient needs. The hospital utilizes EPIC for electronic medical records, ensuring efficient documentation and access to patient information. Block operating room time is available, providing dedicated opportunities for procedures and interventions as required by the patient census.

The scope of practice for this Gastroenterologist (GI) - Inpatient, Locum Tenens role encompasses a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. These include, but are not limited to, diagnostic and therapeutic ERCP, EGD, flexible sigmoidoscopy, total colonoscopy, argon plasma coagulation, PEG placements, esophageal dilation and stent placement, pneumatic dilation for achalasia, paracentesis, GI tumor ablation, snare polypectomy, management of acute and massive GI bleeding, and management of complex GI conditions such as ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease, and malabsorption syndromes. You will also have the opportunity to utilize video capsule enteroscopy and administer IV conscious sedation (ACLS certification required).

The ideal candidate for this Gastroenterologist (GI) - Inpatient, Locum Tenens position is board-certified in gastroenterology, highly proficient in advanced endoscopic procedures, and comfortable working autonomously in an inpatient setting. Licensure in New Jersey or eligibility for the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact (IMLC) is preferred. The assignment offers a manageable patient load, typically ranging from 5 to 10 patients per day, ensuring a balanced workflow while maintaining high standards of care. Emergency call coverage is a part of the role, reflecting the critical importance of rapid response to acute GI presentations.
