As a Flight Surgeon, MD/DO, you will be responsible for providing comprehensive medical care, performing critical operational evaluations, and ensuring adherence to military medical standards. Flight Surgeon, MD/DO - Summary
- Provide expert medical care and operational assessments for military personnel and their families
- Ensure compliance with military medical and fitness standards
- Serve as a clinical leader and liaison between medical and operational teams
- Support the mission of maintaining health and readiness within the military community
Duties & Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive patient examinations, develop diagnostic and treatment plans, and order/interp tests
- Implement evidence-based treatment plans and determine the need for specialist referrals
- Perform case management, primary care, and preventive care for active-duty personnel and their families
- Respond to patient inquiries in collaboration with clinic staff
- Maintain certifications and perform clinical procedures such as airway management, intubation, cardioversion, minor surgical procedures, wound care, splinting, fracture/dislocation reduction, IV/IM administration, and foreign body removal
- Conduct operational evaluations including Preventive Health Assessments, initial certification exams, and adaptability assessments
- Make aeromedical disposition decisions, including medical waivers and duty status determinations
- Apply and uphold medical and fitness standards according to military regulations
- Complete deployment health assessments and participate in occupational health programs
- Prepare medical records and reports according to guidelines
- Participate in meetings, safety reviews, and quality improvement initiatives
- Serve as a liaison and provide clinical advice for medical and occupational medicine programs
- Support medical committees and participate in emergency response exercises

Qualifications & Requirements
- Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.) from an accredited institution
- Graduation from a U.S. or Canadian medical school accredited by recognized organizations or equivalent foreign medical education with ECFMG certification, Fifth Pathway Certificate, or USMLE success
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS/ALS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) recommended
- Board certification in Aerospace Medicine highly recommended; alternatively, board certification in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Occupational Medicine, or Preventive Medicine plus minimum three years of U.S. military Flight Surgeon experience
- At least 160 hours of direct patient care in the past year
- Three or more years as a privileged Flight Surgeon at a U.S. military installation within the last ten years
- Familiarity with U.S. military medical standards and operational evaluations
- Ability to apply medical and fitness standards as outlined in DAFMAN 48-123, DAFMAN 36-2905, and AFI 48-133
- U.S. Citizenship and NACI clearance required
