Estimating Manager - Summary
- Lead and supervise a team of estimators for mechanical construction projects.
- Oversee accurate and timely preparation of project estimates and proposals.
- Coordinate with subcontractors and vendors to ensure completeness in pricing and scope coverage.
- Support business development by identifying project opportunities and assisting in client presentations and negotiations.
- Collaborate with project managers and teams to validate scopes and manage price changes effectively.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Assign, monitor, and manage workloads for the estimating staff, ensuring high-quality deliverables.
- Train and mentor junior estimators, fostering professional growth within the team.
- Lead weekly meetings to discuss production, identify scope changes, and plan upcoming work.
- Maintain regular contact with preconstruction departments at key general contractors to identify new projects.
- Evaluate potential projects for strategic fit and margin goals.
- Assist in selling proposals through presentations, scope development, negotiations, and closings.
- Review project plans, P&IDs, specifications, and contracts to identify all requirements.
- Utilize computer-based takeoff and estimating systems for consistent and accurate estimates.
- Prepare detailed project estimates for a variety of mechanical systems.
- Coordinate with subcontractors and vendors to secure competitive and complete pricing.
- Participate in project kickoff meetings to communicate scope, budgets, and requirements.
- Assist project managers in budget preparation and change order pricing.
- Support project forecasts, schedules, and claims as needed.
- Monitor project progress and compare production rates against bid assumptions.
- Assist in labor productivity tracking and develop recovery plans when necessary.

Qualifications & Requirements
- 5–10+ years of experience leading estimating teams and managing personnel in mechanical construction.
- 10+ years of cradle-to-grave mechanical construction estimating experience.
- Extensive knowledge of mechanical systems, specifically process piping, HVAC, sheet metal, and/or plumbing.
- Demonstrated experience in business development and client relationship management.
- Proficiency with estimating software such as Autobid, Trimble, QuickPen, FastPIPE, or similar.
- Strong computer skills, especially in Microsoft Office and Excel.
- Preferred: Field or craft experience within mechanical construction.
- Preferred: Experience estimating large-scale high-purity or process piping projects, particularly in semiconductor or biopharmaceutical environments.
- Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
