Environmental Health and Safety Supervisor (EHS Supervisor) – Summary
The Environmental Health and Safety Supervisor (EHS Supervisor) is responsible for managing all aspects of the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) program within the laboratory environment. This includes ensuring strict adherence to federal, state, and institutional safety regulations, developing and implementing EHS initiatives, and providing training and coaching to staff. The EHS Supervisor will drive the achievement of annual safety and environmental targets, lead risk reduction programs, and foster a proactive safety culture throughout the organization in DeLand, FL.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead, design, and implement lab safety programs, ensuring compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other applicable regulations.
- Champion projects aimed at moving towards a zero-incident safety culture and continuous safety improvement.
- Create, maintain, and update EHS protocols and risk matrices, and direct investigations into safety and environmental incidents.
- Provide guidance and leadership during crisis situations, developing and implementing accident prevention strategies.
- Manage emergency preparedness planning, including fire drills and participation in safety events such as Lab Week and National Safety Month.
- Serve as the primary contact for safety standards during internal and external inspections and maintain up-to-date regulatory compliance with local, state, and federal authorities.
- Oversee hazardous waste management programs and ensure proper completion of regulatory permits, licensing, and reporting.
- Conduct regular safety inspections, audits, and chemical inventory reviews, maintaining comprehensive training and incident records.
- Lead safety-related reporting at Medical Director meetings and participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
- Develop annual EHS targets and metrics, tracking performance indicators, and implementing corrective actions as needed.
- Deliver annual and ongoing safety training to new and existing staff, monitoring the regulatory environment for updates and changes.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a safety or environmental-related field is required.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification is required.
- Four or more years of direct experience with environmental health and safety regulations (OSHA, EPA) are required.
- Experience in laboratory settings and with chemical inventories is preferred.
- OSHA 30 certification is preferred.
- CPR/AED/First Aid/BBP Certification is preferred.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, leadership, and training skills are essential.
- Demonstrated ability to interact with leadership teams and external agencies.
- Current permanent US work authorization required.
