Emergency Veterinarian (DVM, VMD) - Summary
- Deliver high-quality emergency and critical care to a variety of animal species, including exotics.
- Collaborate with a team of 3-4 veterinary doctors per shift and skilled support staff.
- Utilize advanced diagnostic tools and practice management software within a modern hospital environment.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Triage and treat emergent and critical care patients promptly and efficiently.
- Perform physical examinations and accurately gather relevant patient information, including signalment, presenting complaints, and vital signs.
- Utilize diagnostic modalities such as ultrasound, radiographs, bloodwork, and biopsies to assess patient needs.
- Develop and implement individualized diagnostic and therapeutic plans based on patient assessment and client communication.
- Clearly communicate diagnoses, treatment options, and prognoses to clients, ensuring they are informed and supported throughout the process.
- Prepare and present detailed treatment estimates for client understanding and approval.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date medical records in practice management systems and EMRs.
- Educate clients on the value of veterinary tests, treatments, and aftercare protocols.
- Prescribe medications and adhere to established drug protocols in accordance with veterinary standards.
- Perform minor and major emergency surgeries as needed, ensuring the highest standards of care and safety.
- Provide aftercare instructions and preventative education to clients for optimal patient recovery.
- Respond to medical inquiries over the phone with professionalism and accuracy.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), Veterinary Medical Doctor (VMD), or equivalent accredited degree.
- At least one year of emergency or critical care experience is preferred but not mandatory.
- Willingness to treat exotic animal species; prior experience with exotics is a plus.
- Basic computer proficiency, including practice management software, EMRs, and collaboration tools.
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with clients and team members, both in person and over the phone.
- Ability or willingness to perform emergency surgical procedures (both minor and major).
- Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required by hospital scheduling and patient needs.
