Duties & Responsibilities
- Conduct triage and promptly manage emergency cases to ensure the best possible outcomes for animal patients.
- Gather relevant patient information, including signalment, presenting complaints, and vital signs, and perform thorough physical examinations.
- Utilize a range of diagnostic tools such as ultrasounds, x-rays, bloodwork, and biopsies to accurately assess and diagnose conditions.
- Develop and implement individualized diagnostic and therapeutic plans tailored to each pet’s condition.
- Clearly communicate diagnoses, treatment options, and care plans to clients, providing education on necessary procedures and aftercare.
- Prepare and present detailed treatment estimates to clients in a transparent manner.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date electronic medical records (EMR) for all cases and ensure thorough documentation of patient care.
- Prescribe medications and follow required drug protocols in accordance with established veterinary guidelines.
- Perform both minor and major emergency surgeries as required, contributing to life-saving interventions.
- Educate clients on the value of diagnostic tests, treatments, and preventative care measures to support long-term pet health.
- Collaborate with a team of 3-4 doctors per shift and other veterinary professionals to ensure optimal patient outcomes and a supportive work environment.
- Answer medical questions from clients over the phone, providing guidance and reassurance during emergencies.
- Participate in ongoing professional development and continuing education opportunities to maintain and enhance clinical skills.
Salary & Benefits
- Competitive base salary starting at $160,000, plus a 22% production bonus, offering annual earnings potential of $200,000 to $300,000.
- Comprehensive continuing education (CE) support, with 100% coverage for CE courses (online or in-person) and $3,500 allocated for CE-related travel expenses.
- Flexible scheduling options with shifts including daytime, overnight, and swing shifts, typically amounting to 156 shifts per year.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), Veterinary Medical Doctor (VMD), or equivalent degree required.
- At least 1 year of experience in emergency or critical care preferred, though all qualified candidates will be considered.
- Experience with exotic animals is preferred; willingness to treat exotics is required.
- Basic computer proficiency, including the ability to manage practice management systems, electronic medical records, and collaboration software.
- Strong communication skills for effective interaction with clients and colleagues, both in person and over the phone.
- Ability and willingness to perform both minor and major emergency surgeries as needed.
- Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotating or as-needed basis to meet hospital demands.
