Emergency Veterinarian (DVM, VMD) Job OverviewWe are seeking a dedicated Emergency Veterinarian (DVM, VMD) to join our team in Naperville, IL. This full-time position offers the opportunity to work alongside a collaborative group of veterinary professionals in a dynamic emergency care environment. As an Emergency Veterinarian, you will provide life-saving care to a variety of animal patients, including both common companion animals and exotics, during critical situations. Key Responsibilities- Perform emergency triage and deliver timely medical treatments to animal patients as they arrive, ensuring that urgent cases are assessed and managed efficiently.
- Conduct thorough physical examinations and utilize diagnostic tools such as ultrasounds, x-rays, bloodwork, and biopsies to identify medical conditions.
- Develop and communicate effective diagnostic and therapeutic plans to clients, ensuring they understand the treatment options and next steps for their pets.
- Perform both minor and major emergency surgeries as needed, demonstrating a willingness to learn and refine surgical skills in a supportive environment.
- Educate clients on aftercare instructions and preventative health measures to promote ongoing animal wellness.
- Respond to medical inquiries over the phone, providing clear and professional guidance regarding emergency situations and general care.
- Prepare and present treatment estimates, and maintain accurate, up-to-date medical records for all cases managed.
- Collaborate closely with a team of 3-4 doctors per shift, as well as support staff, to ensure the highest standard of patient care is delivered at all times.
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), Veterinary Medical Doctor (VMD), or equivalent degree from an accredited institution.
- At least one year of experience in emergency or critical care is preferred, but all candidates with a willingness to learn emergency procedures are encouraged to apply.
- Experience with exotic animals is preferred; candidates must be open to treating a variety of species as part of the emergency care team.
- Basic proficiency in practice management systems, electronic medical records (EMR), and collaboration software is required.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with clients, colleagues, and support staff both in person and over the phone.
- Availability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays, on a rotating or as-needed basis.
This Emergency Veterinarian (DVM, VMD) position is based in Naperville, IL, a vibrant community within the greater Chicago area. Naperville is known for its welcoming neighborhoods and offers a supportive environment for veterinary professionals. You will join a team typically comprised of 3-4 doctors per shift, working collaboratively in a well-equipped hospital setting with leadership roles such as Medical Director, Hospital Manager, and Nursing Manager. The position is full-time and may involve shifts of varying durations to ensure round-the-clock coverage for emergency cases.
