Emergency Veterinarian (DVM) - Summary

Duties & Responsibilities
- Answer medical inquiries from clients via phone and in-person, providing clear, accurate information.
- Conduct triage for emergency cases, gathering all relevant patient information and performing detailed physical examinations.
- Utilize diagnostic tools such as ultrasounds, x-rays, blood panels, and biopsies to evaluate patient conditions.
- Develop individualized diagnostic and therapeutic plans for each case and communicate these plans effectively to clients.
- Prepare and present clear treatment estimates and options to pet owners, ensuring transparency and understanding.
- Maintain meticulous and up-to-date electronic medical records for all patients.
- Educate clients on the importance and value of diagnostic tests, treatments, and aftercare regimens.
- Prescribe medications and follow required veterinary drug protocols for emergency and critical care cases.
- Perform both minor and major emergency surgical procedures as needed for patient stabilization and treatment.
- Promote preventative health care and educate clients on aftercare and ongoing wellness for their pets.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), Veterinary Medical Doctor (VMD), or an equivalent accredited degree.
- One year of experience in emergency or critical care preferred, though new graduates with a strong interest in emergency medicine are welcome to apply.
- Experience working with exotic animals is preferred; willingness and ability to treat exotic species is required.
- Proficiency with basic computer applications for practice management, electronic medical records, and collaboration tools.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with clients and team members.
- Competence or willingness to perform a range of emergency surgical procedures, both minor and major.
- Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotating basis as required by hospital needs.
