Emergency Room RN - Summary
- Delivers direct patient care in a high-acuity emergency setting.
- Provides nursing assessments and interventions for all patient age groups, including pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations.
- Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Utilizes advanced technology and monitoring equipment for comprehensive patient care.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Apply the nursing process in direct patient care, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
- Perform patient triage in accordance with hospital Triage Policy, determining priority of care based on severity of condition.
- Document patient assessments and interventions in the Emergency Department nursing T-system at least every two hours or as needed.
- Initiate prompt interventions in response to abnormal findings, such as airway, breathing, or circulatory issues.
- Understand and utilize pre-hospital forms and documentation protocols.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current emergency nursing practices and procedures.
- Comply with legal aspects of emergency care, including EMTALA laws, reporting requirements for abuse/neglect, and proper procedures for medical/legal examinations.
- Handle technical equipment such as chest tubes, drainage systems, auto-transfusers, cardio-respiratory monitors, and defibrillators.
- Conduct invasive and non-invasive blood pressure monitoring, operate crash carts, and manage advanced cardiac monitoring technologies.
- Provide comprehensive after-care instructions to patients and families.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Current and valid RN license.
- Demonstrated competency in emergency nursing and acute care practices.
- Ability to assess and care for patients across the lifespan, including infants, children, adolescents, adults, and the elderly.
- Knowledge of legal requirements, EMTALA regulations, and reporting procedures for patient care in the emergency setting.
- Proficient in the use of emergency medical equipment and electronic documentation systems.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
