Emergency Room Registered Nurse (ER RN) - Summary
The Emergency Room Registered Nurse (ER RN) is responsible for delivering safe, evidence-based nursing care to patients of all age groups in the emergency department. This includes conducting comprehensive patient assessments, developing care plans, delivering direct patient interventions, and evaluating patient progress. The ER RN plays a leadership role by mentoring junior staff, facilitating effective communication between the healthcare team and patients or families, and maintaining the highest standards of professional practice. Working within the emergency department requires flexibility, resilience, and a strong commitment to patient advocacy and safety.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Clinical Excellence: Perform rapid and thorough patient assessments, identifying and responding to emergent clinical changes with timely interventions.
- Direct Patient Care: Administer medications, intravenous therapies, and other treatments as prescribed by physicians, while adhering to emergency department protocols.
- Patient & Family Education: Provide clear, compassionate education to patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment options, and discharge instructions.
- Team Leadership: Lead and mentor junior nursing personnel, fostering a culture of teamwork, continuous learning, and professional growth.
- Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Communicate proactively with physicians and other care providers to coordinate patient care and optimize clinical outcomes.
- Regulatory Compliance: Maintain current knowledge of and compliance with EMTALA regulations, mandatory reporting requirements, and hospital policies.
- Telemetry Support: Monitor and manage patients requiring telemetry, ensuring adherence to established standards of care and safety.
- Documentation: Accurately document all patient care activities, assessments, and interventions in the electronic health record system.
- Patient Privacy: Uphold strict compliance with HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality at all times.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Active Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications
- Completion of BVP (MAB) safety training
- Preferred: NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Preferred: Up-to-date COVID-19 vaccination and booster status
- Demonstrated clinical competence in emergency nursing
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and critical thinking skills
- Ability to work effectively in high-pressure, rapidly changing environments
