Emergency Medicine Physician (EM Physician, Locum Tenens) Position OverviewOptigy is seeking a dedicated Emergency Medicine Physician for a locum tenens, full-time opportunity in Michigan City, Indiana. This role is ideal for board-certified or board-eligible physicians in Emergency Medicine (EM), Family Medicine (FM), or Internal Medicine (IM) with demonstrated emergency medicine experience. The Emergency Medicine Physician will provide high-quality care within a dynamic emergency room environment, collaborating closely with a supportive team and serving a diverse patient population across multiple locations within the Franciscan Health system.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver comprehensive emergency medical care to patients presenting with a wide range of acute illnesses and injuries.
- Perform initial assessment, diagnosis, and management of emergent and non-emergent cases in an emergency department setting.
- Stabilize patients and initiate appropriate treatment protocols in accordance with current clinical guidelines.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare professionals, including nursing staff, specialists, and support personnel, to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Document clinical findings, treatment plans, and patient progress accurately and in a timely manner within electronic medical records.
- Participate in patient handoffs and ensure continuity of care during shift transitions.
- Work at the primary Michigan City, Indiana site, with potential coverage at additional Franciscan Health locations, including LaPorte, Rensselaer, Munster, Dyer, Chesterton, Crawfordsville, and Lafayette East.
- Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Board Certification or Board Eligibility in Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, or Internal Medicine with emergency medicine experience.
- Active Indiana medical license or eligibility to obtain one prior to start date.
- Clear background suitable for credentialing at Franciscan Health and affiliated sites.
- ABEM (American Board of Emergency Medicine) certification preferred; Family Practice (FP) or Internal Medicine (IM) candidates with relevant emergency medicine experience may be considered at select locations.
