As an Emergency Medicine Physician (EM Physician), you will be responsible for delivering high-quality medical care to patients presenting with acute illnesses or injuries. You will work alongside Advanced Practice Providers and benefit from backup specialties including Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Oncology, Podiatry, and Surgery. The department is equipped with Cerner CommunityWorks EMR and comprises a 7-bed Emergency Department plus a 3-bed Fast Track area, providing robust patient flow management and access to modern technology. Physicians work structured 12-hour shifts with no on-call requirements, allowing for a predictable work schedule and a balanced professional commitment.
This position offers exposure to a diverse patient population with approximately 16,000 annual visits, averaging around 45 patients per day. The emergency department experiences an EMS volume of about 12.4% and an admission rate of approximately 8%. The absence of a formal trauma designation means the focus is on high-quality emergency care for a variety of urgent medical needs. There is no requirement for trauma-level response, streamlining your ability to focus on general emergency medicine operations.
Credentialing is streamlined, typically taking 60 to 90 days, with expedited privileges available for candidates with a clean file. You will participate in onboarding including EMR training and orientation to ensure a smooth transition into your new role. Physicians who are not ABEM-certified must maintain current ATLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications. Additional compliance requirements include an active Louisiana medical license or IMLC eligibility, a DEA registration with a Louisiana address, and LA PCF compliance. Recent CME, case logs, and evidence of vaccinations are necessary for credentialing, emphasizing the department's commitment to high standards of care and safety.
