Emergency Medicine Physician (EM) - Summary
As an Emergency Medicine Physician (EM), you will be responsible for providing comprehensive emergency medical services in a critical access hospital setting. The facility acts as a Level 3 trauma center with medium acuity, managing an annual emergency department (ED) volume of approximately 16,000 visits and handling an average of 45 patients daily. This role requires flexibility to cover both day and night shifts, with a typical schedule including 10-12 shifts per month. You will join a collaborative team that includes other physicians as well as nurse practitioners and physician assistants, with robust backup specialties available to support patient care.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality emergency medical care to patients presenting with a wide range of urgent and emergent conditions.
- Perform all standard emergency room procedures according to best practice standards and hospital protocols.
- Work efficiently across scheduled shifts, including day (6a-6p) and night (6p-6a) rotations.
- Collaborate closely with support staff, including nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and backup specialty teams such as cardiology, gastroenterology, oncology, podiatry, and surgery.
- Utilize electronic medical records (EMR) systems, specifically Cerner, to document patient care accurately and in compliance with hospital policy.
- Ensure clear and timely communication with patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members.
- Participate in ongoing credentialing and onboarding processes as required for continuous hospital compliance.
- Manage ED census effectively, ensuring optimal patient flow and high standards of care for all 10 ED beds.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Board Certification in Emergency Medicine (ABEM), Internal Medicine (ABIM), or Family Medicine (ABFM) with emergency medicine experience.
- Active state medical license and DEA registration, or willingness to transfer credentials as required.
- Certification in Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
- Ability to commit to a minimum of 3 shifts per month, with flexibility to cover both day and night rotations.
- Strong skills in performing all standard emergency room procedures and managing a medium acuity patient population.
- Proficiency with Cerner or similar EMR systems.
