Emergency Medicine Physician (EM) - Summary
- Provide comprehensive emergency medical care in a busy, well-supported hospital environment.
- Work 12-hour shifts as part of a team delivering 24/7 physician coverage, including days, nights, and weekends.
- Support an emergency department with approximately 14,000 annual visits and 70 inpatient beds.
- Contribute to a collaborative and patient-focused clinical team.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Evaluate, diagnose, and manage acute and urgent conditions in patients of all ages presenting to the emergency department.
- Stabilize patients and coordinate care for critical illnesses or trauma in accordance with hospital policies.
- Perform medical procedures consistent with board certification, training, and hospital privileges.
- Work collaboratively with nursing staff, specialists, and ancillary care providers to ensure comprehensive patient care.
- Complete necessary documentation and maintain accurate, thorough medical records for all encounters.
- Participate in daily operations of the emergency department, including shift handovers and interdisciplinary meetings.
- Adhere to established protocols for patient safety, infection control, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Demonstrate commitment to continuing education and compliance with licensure and certification requirements.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Active Virginia medical license and DEA registration required (no exceptions; clean credentialing files only).
- Board certification or eligibility in Emergency Medicine preferred (ABEM or AOBEM); IM/FP with strong emergency department experience considered.
- Must achieve board certification within 7 years of residency completion if board eligible.
- History of Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) certification required; if not EM-boarded, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification also required.
- Willingness and ability to work all shifts including days, nights, and weekends.
- Moonlighting residents are not accepted for this opportunity.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and clinical decision-making skills.
