Electrical Engineer PE Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Electrical Engineer PE to join our client’s award-winning engineering team in San Diego, CA. This is a full-time opportunity for a professional who holds a current Professional Engineer (PE) license and possesses a strong background in electrical engineering design, project management, and construction administration. As an Electrical Engineer PE, you will leverage your expertise to deliver high-quality engineering solutions, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and contribute to innovative projects across a variety of sectors.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive field surveys for electrical system design, collecting and analyzing site data to produce detailed site assessment reports in San Diego, CA.
- Develop electrical schematic designs and prepare power single line and riser diagrams in compliance with industry standards and local codes.
- Perform critical electrical calculations such as arc flash, coordination, short circuit, voltage drop, and load flow using ETAP/SKM software.
- Select appropriate lighting fixtures and power equipment based on project requirements and energy standards.
- Design and implement power and lighting circuiting, and coordinate advanced lighting control systems for various applications.
- Prepare comprehensive fire alarm device layouts and riser diagrams, ensuring all designs meet International Fire Code and NFPA 72 regulations.
- Create enlarged plans, elevations, schedules, and detailed drawings while adhering to CAD/BIM standards.
- Apply in-depth knowledge of the California Electrical Code and Energy Standards to design both medium and low voltage electrical systems.
- Coordinate closely with mechanical, plumbing, telecom, civil, structural, and architectural disciplines throughout the design process to ensure cohesive project delivery.
- Edit and update project specifications, maintaining accuracy and compliance with client and industry requirements.
- Manage multiple large-scale projects, overseeing both senior engineers and sub-consultants while ensuring deadlines and quality standards are met.
- Provide mentorship and leadership to design engineers, fostering professional development within the team.
- Independently prepare detailed proposals for clients and actively participate in business development activities with new and existing clients.
- Lead construction administration tasks, including reviewing and responding to RFIs, evaluating equipment submittals, and conducting punch walks to prepare detailed punch list reports.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
- Current and active Professional Engineer (PE) license is required.
- Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in electrical engineering, with a strong preference for candidates with demonstrated project management experience.
- Proven ability to lead and manage electrical design projects and mentor a team of engineers.
- Expertise in AutoCAD, ETAP/SKM, and Revit is required for effective design and documentation.
- Familiarity with California-specific codes, energy standards, and HCAI requirements is essential for compliance and successful project execution.
- Self-motivated, inquisitive, and detail-oriented with excellent organizational and record-keeping skills.
- Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment while managing multiple priorities.
