Dental Hygienist (RDH) Job Description
The Dental Hygienist (RDH) plays a vital role in promoting oral health within the dental care team. This position involves providing comprehensive dental hygiene services, including patient education, conducting intra-oral and extra-oral screenings, performing professional teeth cleaning and polishing, and delivering root scaling and planing treatments for periodontal disease in accordance with established dental practice protocols and under the direction of a licensed dentist. The Dental Hygienist (RDH) serves as a key resource for patients, helping them understand the importance of oral hygiene and preventive care to maintain optimal dental health. This role requires a commitment to upholding the organization's mission, vision, and values, as well as strict adherence to compliance protocols, policies, and procedures. This opportunity is available as a per diem, offering flexibility to work as needed based on the dental center's schedule and patient needs.
Responsibilities
- Provide oral health education to patients, addressing proper brushing, flossing, and preventive dental care techniques.
- Conduct thorough intra-oral and extra-oral screenings for all patients seen, identifying signs of oral disease or abnormalities.
- Perform professional dental prophylaxis, including cleaning and polishing teeth to remove plaque, calculus, and stains.
- Carry out root scaling and planing procedures for patients with periodontal disease, following established clinical protocols and as directed by the supervising dentist.
- Document findings, treatments, and patient communications accurately in the dental center’s electronic health record system, such as Dentrix or other required software.
- Collaborate with dentists and other dental team members to deliver high-quality patient care and ensure a positive dental experience.
- Support and participate in educational initiatives and continuing education meetings provided by the dental center.
- Maintain a safe, compliant, and patient-focused clinical environment by adhering to infection control guidelines, compliance protocols, and company policies.
Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited school with an Associate’s degree in Dental Hygiene or equivalent education.
- Active and valid license to practice as a Dental Hygienist (RDH) in Massachusetts.
- Current certification in CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation).
- Experience in using dental software systems such as Dentrix and an ability to adapt to new technologies as needed.
- Willingness to attend continuing education meetings and training sessions as scheduled by the dental center.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented setting and communicate effectively with patients and colleagues.
