CVOR Surgical Technologist (CST) - Summary
- Serve as a key member of the cardiac and thoracic surgical team, focusing on high-acuity, complex procedures.

- Work full-time in a high-volume, fast-paced perioperative setting, gaining valuable experience in advanced cardiac care.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Scrub and assist in a variety of cardiac service-line procedures, including Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG), Aortic/Mitral Valve Replacements and Repairs (AVR/MVR), and aortic aneurysm repairs.
- Participate in thoracic surgeries such as lung resections, lobectomies, and complex vascular procedures like carotid endarterectomies and femoral-popliteal bypasses.
- Efficiently organize and maintain the sterile field for simultaneous vessel harvesting procedures (saphenous vein or radial artery) during cardiac surgeries.
- Anticipate surgeon requirements by preparing micro-instrumentation, specialized clamps, and cardiac sutures in advance.
- Enforce strict sterile technique at all times, following infection control policies and ensuring patient safety.
- Conduct meticulous material and instrument counts to maintain a safe surgical environment.
- Set up OR suites using surgeon preference cards and expedite efficient room turnover for subsequent cases.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program, or graduation from an accredited school of Practical Nursing (LPN), or equivalent military training.
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential from NBSTSA or equivalent strongly preferred.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification required.
- Demonstrated independent competence in scrubbing open-heart and cardiothoracic cases within high-acuity settings.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in managing surgical instruments and maintaining sterile fields.
