Critical Care Physician Assistant (PA-C) - Summary
- Serves as a key clinical provider within the intensive care unit and acute care settings.
- Delivers direct patient care under the supervision of critical care physicians.
- Performs advanced clinical assessments and procedures for critically ill patients.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including history-taking, physical examinations, and interpretation of diagnostic tests in the ICU or acute care setting.
- Develop, implement, and adjust individualized treatment plans for critically ill patients.
- Perform a range of clinical procedures such as central line placement, arterial line insertion, intubation, thoracentesis, and other bedside interventions as credentialed.
- Monitor patient progress and respond to emergent changes in condition with appropriate interventions.
- Coordinate with physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals to ensure continuity of care and prompt communication regarding patient status.
- Participate in daily multidisciplinary rounds, providing input on patient management and discharge planning.
- Document all patient encounters, procedures, and clinical decisions accurately in the electronic health record (EHR) system.
- Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment options, and post-discharge care as appropriate.
- Adhere to all hospital policies, protocols, and regulatory standards related to critical care practice.
- Engage in quality improvement initiatives and ongoing professional development as required by the institution.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Current licensure as a Physician Assistant (PA-C) from an accredited program.
- Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
- Valid state license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the relevant jurisdiction.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) certifications required; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) may be preferred or required in some settings.
- Demonstrated experience in critical care, ICU, or acute care environments preferred.
- Strong clinical skills in patient assessment, diagnostic reasoning, and emergency interventions.
