Cost Accountant - Summary

Duties & Responsibilities
- Review, analyze, and reconcile standard and actual costs.
- Identify and address cost inaccuracies, trends, and opportunities for improvement.
- Analyze manufacturing variances and recommend corrective actions; update standard costs as needed.
- Develop and maintain standard cost system settings, routings, bills of materials, and overhead rates.
- Manage annual cost rolls and participate in cost estimating for new projects.
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for new parts, engineering changes, and customer quotations.
- Support pricing decisions and profitability analysis by presenting cost and margin analyses.
- Assist in budgeting and forecasting, including overhead rate development.
- Partner with operations and engineering to validate routings and labor standards.
- Develop internal controls for accurate recording of labor times, machine hours, and production activity.
- Calculate and maintain perpetual inventory values, including reserves and cycle count adjustments.
- Support month-end close activities; prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and revenue worksheets.
- Provide documentation for internal and external audits related to cost accounting and inventory.
- Support R&D tax requirements and other departmental requests as needed.
- Evaluate and improve cost accounting processes, tools, and reporting.
- Generate and maintain process documentation and desktop procedures.
- Provide backup support to other finance functions such as accounts payable, cost estimating, and accounts receivable.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) in Accounting or Finance from an accredited four-year institution.
- 3-5 years of experience in a manufacturing standard cost environment.
- Thorough knowledge of accounting procedures, including experience with CAS and ASC 606.
- Strong analytical skills with keen attention to detail and time management abilities.
- Proficiency in English, both written and verbal, with ability to interpret business, technical, and financial documents.
- Mathematical proficiency, including calculations involving percentages, ratios, and statistical inference.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, file linking, macros), Word, and PowerPoint.
- Experience with ERP/inventory systems; D365 experience preferred.
- Ability to draft reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
