Controls Engineer (PLC Engineer) - Summary
- Develop, program, and optimize industrial control systems to support automated manufacturing operations.
- Serve as a technical expert for PLCs, automation, and controls, collaborating with manufacturing, maintenance, engineering, and IT teams.
- Contribute to the commissioning, startup, testing, and validation of new automation systems.
- Engage in continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, and productivity.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain industrial control systems and automation processes.
- Create, modify, and troubleshoot PLC programs, including ladder logic and related controls software.
- Support Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) and drive industrial automation projects.
- Interpret, create, and update electrical schematics and technical drawings.
- Lead or assist with automation projects, process improvements, and equipment upgrades.
- Manage project schedules, budgets, and vendor coordination for successful implementation.
- Troubleshoot production equipment, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
- Promote and support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety, quality, and operational efficiency.
- Assist in the commissioning and validation phases for new or upgraded automation systems.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Junior Level: Internship, co-op, capstone, or early-career experience working with Allen-Bradley or Siemens PLCs.
- Senior Level: Over 4.5 years of dedicated controls engineering and PLC programming experience.
- Proficiency with Allen-Bradley ControlLogix, CompactLogix, Siemens PLCs, and VFDs.
- Experience in Studio 5000, RSLogix 5000/500, FactoryTalk View Studio, and Connected Components Workbench.
- Strong understanding of electrical drawings, controls architecture, and industrial automation.
- Excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate across teams.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Software Development, IT, or a related field preferred; equivalent hands-on experience may be considered.
