The Construction Superintendent – Multifamily plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth execution of multifamily construction projects from preconstruction through final project turnover. As the primary leader in the field, this position is responsible for overseeing daily operations, managing subcontractors, coordinating inspections, and enforcing safety and quality standards. The Construction Superintendent – Multifamily ensures that all aspects of the jobsite are well-organized, safe, and compliant with all regulations, while also serving as a key liaison between the construction team, subcontractors, vendors, and project stakeholders. Working as a Construction Superintendent – Multifamily in San Diego, CA, you will be at the forefront of field leadership, orchestrating the daily activities on-site and ensuring all phases of construction proceed efficiently. Your expertise in project scheduling, subcontractor management, and documentation will be essential in maintaining project momentum and upholding the highest standards of quality and safety. You will collaborate closely with the Construction Manager, supporting preconstruction activities, assisting with vendor and subcontractor coordination, and attending critical Owner-Architect-Contractor (OAC) meetings to provide updates and insights on project progress and field conditions.
Beyond managing the construction timeline, the Construction Superintendent – Multifamily is tasked with ensuring all safety policies and OSHA standards are rigorously enforced. You will be responsible for maintaining temporary site conditions, addressing BMPs and SWPPP requirements, and ensuring that the jobsite remains clean and protected throughout the construction process. Community relations are equally important, as you will oversee neighborhood concerns related to parking, noise, dust, and deliveries, fostering a positive relationship with local stakeholders.
Quality control and meticulous documentation are central to this role. You will execute QA/QC procedures, manage mock-ups and inspections, and keep thorough daily logs, including manpower, work activities, and project photos. Accurate as-built documentation and RFI management are integral parts of your responsibilities, supporting the overall integrity and transparency of the project.
Material and logistics management will be under your purview, ensuring timely deliveries, secure storage, and efficient laydown areas to prevent material damage or loss. As the project nears completion, you will coordinate punch list activities, final inspections, and the assembly of closeout documentation, facilitating a smooth turnover and transition for project stakeholders.
The Construction Superintendent – Multifamily is also empowered to request purchase orders as necessary and escalate any cost or scope issues to the Construction Manager, participating in the development of corrective action plans.
