Construction Superintendent Position Overview
The Construction Superintendent role is a critical leadership position responsible for overseeing the daily operations and on-site management of construction projects, with a specific focus on K-12 and DSA (Division of the State Architect) regulated environments. As a Full-time Construction Superintendent in Santa Monica, CA, you will play a vital role in ensuring that every aspect of the construction process is conducted efficiently, safely, and in alignment with both project specifications and industry standards. Key Responsibilities
- Manage and supervise all aspects of the onsite construction process for assigned projects, including coordination of subcontractors and multiple prime contractors.
- Develop and maintain strong, positive working relationships with stakeholders such as owners, architects, consultants, and contractors.
- Oversee self-performed work items, ensuring that all tasks are completed according to project requirements and quality standards.
- Process requests for clarifications and ensure that all project documentation is current and accurate.
- Maintain and update as-built drawings to reflect ongoing changes and ensure compliance with specifications.
- Track costs, labor, materials, and equipment usage to support effective construction supervision and project control.
- Develop initial project schedules and update them regularly to reflect progress and changes during the life of the project.
- Ensure that progress photos are captured throughout the duration of the project as part of project documentation.
- Prepare and submit daily reports in a timely and accurate manner, documenting project status and key activities.
- Comply with all contract documents, ensuring quality of materials and workmanship meets required specifications and standards.
- Review shop drawings and submittals to verify proper coordination and integration of all work elements.
- Assist the Project Manager in identifying, documenting, and estimating changes in scope or work as needed.
- Lead the implementation and enforcement of project and company safety plans onsite, promoting a culture of safety and compliance.
- Collaborate closely with the assigned Project Manager to support overall project success and address challenges proactively.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in commercial and public works construction, with demonstrated expertise in similar superintendent roles.
- Strong attention to detail and proficiency with numerical data and project tracking.
- Proven ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities in a dynamic, fast-paced construction site environment.
- Capability to independently resolve issues by applying project and company standards, ensuring thorough verification of facts before releasing project documentation.
- Excellent judgment, logical reasoning, and a demonstrated capacity for quick learning.
- Effective communication, teamwork, and organizational skills essential for successful construction management.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite is required; experience with Procore and MS Project scheduling software is a plus.
- Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving history are required for the Construction Superintendent role.
