Construction Superintendent Position Overview
The Construction Superintendent plays a critical role in overseeing all onsite operations for commercial construction projects. This full-time position is based in San Diego, CA, and is ideal for professionals with a strong background in commercial and public works construction. The Construction Superintendent is responsible for ensuring that every aspect of the construction process is executed efficiently, safely, and in compliance with all relevant standards and regulations. The role requires a disciplined, detail-oriented approach and excellent organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and priorities on a busy job site.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee onsite construction activities for assigned commercial projects, ensuring proper coordination of all subcontractors and multi-prime arrangements.
- Foster and maintain positive working relationships with owners, architects, consultants, and contractors throughout the duration of each project.
- Manage and supervise self-performed work, ensuring consistent quality and adherence to project specifications.
- Process requests for clarifications and maintain up-to-date as-built drawings to reflect ongoing project changes.
- Track project costs and other essential items required to effectively supervise the construction process from start to finish.
- Develop the initial project schedule and provide regular updates to ensure all stakeholders are informed of progress and any changes.
- Ensure progress photos are taken and daily reports are prepared accurately and promptly to document ongoing work.
- Review shop drawings and submittals to guarantee proper coordination of work and compliance with contract documents.
- Assist the Project Manager in identifying and estimating changes in the scope of work as needed.
- Take the lead in implementing company and project safety plans, promoting a culture of safety onsite.
- Work collaboratively with the assigned Project Manager to achieve project objectives and resolve any issues that arise.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in commercial and public works construction.
- Exceptional attention to detail, with strong numerical and analytical skills.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a dynamic job site environment.
- Demonstrated ability to resolve issues independently, relying on project standards and factual verification before releasing documents.
- Sound judgment, logical thinking, and a capacity for rapid learning of new processes and systems.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and organizational abilities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with Procore and MS Project scheduling software is a plus.
- Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving history.
