Construction Superintendent Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Construction Superintendent to oversee and coordinate all aspects of construction projects, with a focus on school facilities, for our client. This full-time role is based in Norwalk, CA, and involves managing on-site activities to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and in compliance with quality standards and budget requirements. The Construction Superintendent is a critical leadership position responsible for supervising subcontractors, managing schedules, maintaining safety standards, and fostering collaboration among teams to drive successful project outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the onsite construction operations for assigned projects, particularly in the educational sector, ensuring efficient use of labor, materials, equipment, and contractors.
- Coordinate the work of subcontractors and multi-prime contractors to ensure seamless workflow and adherence to project specifications.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with Owners, Architects, Consultants, and Contractors to promote effective communication and collaboration throughout the project lifecycle.
- Manage and supervise self-performed work items, ensuring tasks are completed to the highest quality standards.
- Process and respond to requests for clarifications and update as-built drawings to reflect project progress and changes.
- Track project costs and manage documentation required for effective supervision of the construction process.
- Develop the initial project schedule and update it regularly to reflect progress and changes, ensuring project milestones are met.
- Document progress by taking photos throughout the construction phase and preparing daily reports promptly and accurately.
- Monitor and enforce compliance with contract documents, and ensure the quality of materials and workmanship meets or exceeds project and industry standards.
- Review shop drawings and submittals to ensure proper coordination of all work activities on the project site.
- Assist the Project Manager in identifying and estimating changes in the scope of work as needed.
- Take a leadership role in implementing and maintaining project and company safety plans to ensure a safe work environment for all personnel.
- Collaborate with the assigned Project Manager to resolve issues, improve processes, and achieve project goals.
Qualifications & Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience in commercial and public works construction, preferably with a background in educational facilities.
- Exceptional attention to detail and strong aptitude with numbers required for budget tracking and project documentation.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize and multi-task effectively in a fast-paced job site environment.
- Proven problem-solving skills and the ability to resolve issues independently based on project and company standards.
- Excellent judgment, logical thinking, and willingness to learn new processes or technologies quickly.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills are essential for collaborating with diverse teams and stakeholders.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with construction management software such as Procore and MS Project is a plus.
- Valid driver's license and an acceptable driving history are required.
