Construction Superintendent Job OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Construction Superintendent (Commercial Construction Superintendent) to oversee the day-to-day operations and management of commercial construction projects in Calexico, CA. This is a full-time position with a reputable general contractor known for delivering high-quality ground-up builds and tenant improvement (TI) work. The Construction Superintendent role is integral to ensuring that all project milestones, schedules, and quality standards are met, while maintaining a safe and organized project environment.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and supervise daily field activities for commercial construction projects to achieve project milestones and meet completion deadlines.
- Create and manage short-interval look-ahead project schedules, ensuring effective communication and proactive issue resolution.
- Enforce and manage the site safety plan, fostering a culture of health, safety, and cleanliness on the job site in compliance with OSHA 30 requirements.
- Coordinate and manage contractor and subcontractor work in accordance with contract documents and industry best practices.
- Establish and maintain dimensional controls for the project, utilizing third-party survey and layout personnel as necessary.
- Ensure all work is performed to the highest standards of quality, including obtaining necessary inspections and documenting project progress.
- Maintain compliance with all contract terms and legal regulations governing the project and local community.
- Administer client-specific programs, such as landlord or site rules, safety requirements, and security protocols.
- Conduct and participate in pre-construction, progress, and staff meetings to facilitate project coordination.
- Manage self-performed work to stay within established project budgets, and oversee changes in project scope to prevent unnecessary rework.
- Administer contracts, subcontracts, purchase orders, and related agreements, ensuring all terms and conditions are met proactively.
- Lead the punch list and project closeout processes, facilitating timely completion and turnover.
- Handle daily administrative tasks such as timecards, field reports, and scheduling updates using industry-standard software tools, including Microsoft Office and project management software.
- Maintain positive and professional interactions with clients, vendors, and internal teams.
- Support proposal development, estimate reviews, and project marketing activities as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support company goals and project success.
- Demonstrated experience managing tilt-up and ground-up commercial construction projects, including tenant improvement (TI) work.
- Experience with automobile dealership builds is considered a strong asset.
- Associate’s degree in Construction Management or similar field, or Journeyman status in a building trade from an accredited organization.
- Proven track record of progressive responsibility supervising construction projects.
- Comprehensive understanding of construction methods and means, specifically for commercial or institutional buildings and related site work.
- Proficiency in using spreadsheets, email, scheduling tools, and other construction industry software.
- Current safety certifications, including OSHA 30, First Aid, and CPR.
- Expertise in project scheduling, sequencing, and control, including effective change order management.
- Strong critical thinking, listening, and communication skills with the ability to resolve complex issues efficiently.
- Goal-oriented and proactive, demonstrating responsibility for identifying and solving potential problems early.

- Effective team leadership, the ability to inspire others, and a collaborative approach to working with diverse groups.
