Construction Superintendent Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Construction Superintendent to join a dynamic and reputable commercial general contracting team in Sacramento, CA. This full-time position is integral to overseeing the successful execution of ground-up commercial construction projects, ensuring all activities at the construction site are managed efficiently and in compliance with safety and quality standards. As a Construction Superintendent, you will play a pivotal leadership role, working collaboratively with project management and field teams to deliver well-built projects on schedule and within budget.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain a safe construction site in accordance with State and Federal OSHA requirements.
- Create and manage project schedules using MS Project, determining optimal sequencing of work for efficient project delivery.
- Oversee and coordinate all day-to-day construction field operations, ensuring compliance with building codes, plans, specifications, and best practices.
- Direct, schedule, and coordinate all subcontractor work, facilitating effective communication and workflow among project stakeholders.
- Interpret and work with various types of construction plans, including architectural, structural, MPE, and civil drawings.
- Foster strong working relationships with owners, consultants, governing agency representatives, and other involved parties.
- Lead weekly subcontractor coordination and safety meetings to ensure consistent communication and adherence to safety protocols.
- Review and coordinate submittals and shop drawings, ensuring all materials and work meet project requirements.
- Resolve field issues promptly through the RFI (Request for Information) process.
- Maintain the highest levels of quality assurance throughout all phases of construction.
- Document daily jobsite activities and conditions, ensuring accurate and timely project records.
- Manage and coordinate project inspections, permits, and sign-offs to ensure project milestones are met.
- Collaborate with the project manager to manage billing processes, including subcontractor and supplier payments, as well as owner billings.
- Perform additional responsibilities as necessary to ensure the successful and safe completion of each project.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Coordinate and collaborate with on-site resources, governing agency representatives, clients, design professionals, and subcontractors.
- Carry out supervisory duties in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws, including training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work, and addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a Superintendent role, with at least 10 years in the construction field preferred.
- Any combination of education and experience deemed appropriate by management; a college degree is preferred but not required.
- Valid OSHA 30 certification, with current First Aid and CPR certifications.
- Good driving record and familiarity with regulatory construction standards.
- Strong action orientation, collaboration, and effective communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to make sound decisions, manage complexity, handle conflict, and ensure accountability in the field.
- Resilience, adaptability, and the ability to direct work and drive results under varying conditions.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, Project, Bluebeam, and Procore.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities, with strong attention to detail and the ability to read and interpret construction plans.
- Experience in scheduling, ordering, field supervision, and quality assurance processes.
- Ability to perform calculations involving discounts, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume, and apply basic geometry concepts.
- Skilled in solving practical problems and interpreting a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
