Construction Superintendent Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Construction Superintendent to oversee ground up commercial construction projects, with a focus on automobile dealership developments, for a reputable general contractor. This full-time position is based in Colorado Springs, CO, and requires expertise in tilt-up and ground up construction, as well as proven leadership in managing complex projects from inception to completion. The Construction Superintendent will play a critical role in ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest safety and quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day field activities to ensure project milestones and overall schedule completion are achieved, with continuous supervision of all on-site work.
- Create and maintain short-interval look-ahead project schedules to communicate upcoming tasks, track progress, and address potential issues proactively.
- Oversee the project site safety plan, fostering a culture that prioritizes safety, health, and cleanliness for all team members and subcontractors.
- Coordinate construction activities to ensure work is completed in an organized, deliberate manner consistent with best practice standards and contractual requirements.
- Establish and maintain all dimensional controls for the project, utilizing third-party survey and layout personnel when necessary.
- Verify that all work is performed to high standards, including ensuring quality construction practices such as plumb, level, and straight installations.
- Obtain all necessary inspections and thoroughly document quality aspects of physical construction work.
- Ensure full compliance with all contract terms, legal requirements, and community regulations throughout every phase of the project.
- Administer client-specific programs, such as adherence to landlord/site rules, safety programs, and site-specific security protocols.
- Lead and participate in pre-construction, progress, and staff meetings to facilitate open communication and effective project management.
- Supervise self-performed activities and ensure work stays within the established project budget.
- Manage changes in project scope by ensuring the most current documents are used, preventing unnecessary rework and maintaining project accuracy.
- Administer contracts, subcontracts, purchase orders, and related agreements to ensure all scope, terms, and conditions are proactively met.
- Oversee the punch list and project closeout process to ensure timely and thorough completion.
- Maintain daily paperwork, including timecards, field reports, schedule updates, and correspondence, to ensure accurate project documentation.
- Collaborate with supporting departments such as IT, vendors, and security, providing timely and professional interactions to support project objectives.
- Contribute to project proposals, review estimates, assist with proposal creation, and participate in interviews and business development activities as needed.
- Engage in marketing and project acquisition activities to support company growth.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support organizational goals.
Qualifications
- Proven experience managing tilt-up and ground up commercial construction projects, with a strong preference for experience in automobile dealership builds.
- Associate degree in Construction Management or a related field, or Journeyman status in a building trade from an accredited organization, along with demonstrated progressive responsibility in construction supervision.
- Comprehensive understanding of construction means and methods related to commercial and institutional building projects, including associated site work.
- Proficiency in spreadsheet applications, email communication, scheduling tools, Microsoft Office, and other industry-specific software.
- Current safety credentials including OSHA 30, First Aid, and CPR certification.
