Construction Superintendent - Summary
The Construction Superintendent is tasked with directing all field operations for grading projects, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, managing production schedules, and fostering a collaborative team atmosphere. The role requires hands-on leadership to guide multiple project teams, oversee heavy equipment operations, and maintain effective communication between various project stakeholders. As a Construction Superintendent, you will be responsible for all aspects of project execution, from initial planning and scheduling to the delivery of completed work that meets or exceeds quality and safety standards.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Direct field activities on assigned projects, adhering to company policies and OSHA/MSHA regulations.
- Build and foster a team atmosphere to support the success of foremen and equipment operators.
- Manage several foremen and lead personnel across multiple projects, providing guidance, resources, and technical support.
- Coordinate project schedules, equipment deliveries, and meetings with clients, engineers, and owners.
- Ensure all materials are submitted, approved, and delivered according to project schedules.
- Maintain erosion control inspections and ensure ongoing compliance with environmental regulations.
- Conduct on-site safety inspections and enforce safety protocols.
- Assist in recruiting, training, and retaining personnel, fostering continual learning and growth within project teams.
- Facilitate communication of billing and payroll information to appropriate offices for timely invoicing and compensation.
- Maintain organized project files, including documentation on fuel usage, load counts, hourly work, change orders, and materials lists.
- Oversee MSHA compliance, ensuring all required documentation is current and accessible.
- Perform random inspections of vehicles, equipment, and project sites to uphold safety and operational standards.
- Maintain company equipment and vehicles, ensuring they are clean, operational, and compliant with maintenance schedules.
- Operate heavy equipment safely and efficiently as needed, and participate in routine and preventative maintenance.
- Maintain accurate inventory and logs for fuel, load counts, and work hours.
- Install and maintain erosion control devices, such as silt fences, and report any deficiencies for corrective action.
- Guide and lead crews in daily project activities, including emergency equipment repairs as needed.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Proficient knowledge of equipment operation and maintenance
- Understanding of OSHA and MSHA regulations and compliance requirements
- Strong familiarity with site preparation, road construction, and maintenance techniques
- Experience operating heavy equipment, such as front end loaders, dozers, graders, and compactors
- Knowledge of workplace safety protocols and equipment cleaning standards
- Ability to read and interpret project-related documents and maintain accurate records
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated decision-making, problem-solving, and analytical skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities effectively
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record (if required for company vehicle use)
