Construction Superintendent Position Overview
The Construction Superintendent plays a pivotal role in managing and overseeing daily field operations for multi-family construction projects. The Construction Superintendent is responsible for implementing project plans, enforcing company policies, and fostering a team-oriented work environment that supports career growth and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer and uphold a robust safety program that meets or exceeds the company’s annual safety goals, fostering a culture of safety at all levels of the organization.
- Ensure project materials are supplied and work is performed in accordance with the Project Quality Program and relevant standards.
- Oversee construction activities to ensure compliance with approved plans, specifications, design drawings, and applicable codes, while maintaining company quality expectations.
- Develop, maintain, and update construction schedules daily in partnership with the project team, ensuring project milestones and completion deadlines are consistently achieved.
- Coordinate material and service purchase orders, confirm the receipt of materials, and manage the return of equipment as necessary.
- Maintain an accurate inventory log and manage the distribution of materials to company employees as required.
- Supervise and coordinate the work of field employees and subcontractors, ensuring efficient execution of project deliverables and accurate completion of time and production records.
- Mentor and support the development of project team members, contributing to their professional growth and the broader success of the organization.
- Lead regular project meetings with internal teams and external stakeholders to monitor progress and support the ongoing advancement of the project.
- Maintain detailed daily logs to track site progress, events, inspections, and other relevant project information.
- Conduct weekly safety meetings and job discussions, as well as manage and perform weekly safety inspections.
- Prepare and distribute weekly progress reports, ensuring timely submission by the end of each business week.
- Establish credibility and foster strong, trustworthy relationships with owners, trade contractors, and project partners.
- Review project details with architects, engineers, and subcontractors to confirm compliance with project documents and plans.
- Evaluate and review vendor drawings and submittals for accuracy and completeness.
- Promote a culture of quality by instilling the importance of high standards in all operations, striving to deliver results that meet customer and company expectations.
- Authorize and approve supervision personnel transactions, including hiring, transfers, and wage decisions, in coordination with project managers to ensure optimal staffing.
- Lead and participate in project means and methods planning, encouraging innovative thinking and the development of effective work plans.
- Collaborate with all teams, including subcontractors, to resolve project issues and ensure objectives related to quality, safety, and scheduling are met.
- Mentor construction, supervisory, and engineering staff to promote individual development and uphold company standards.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2-5 years’ experience supervising ground-up multi-family or hotel construction projects.
- Comprehensive knowledge of all trades, with the ability to read and interpret specifications for each.
- Prior experience as a foreman or journeyman is preferred.
- OSHA 10-hour training or equivalent safety certification.
- CPR and First Aid certification.
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Project and intermediate to advanced experience with Procore.
- Familiarity with BIM, LEAN, and LEED practices is advantageous.
- Ability to manage digital images and related technology for project documentation.
- Strong organizational skills, adaptability, and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work outdoors year-round in various weather conditions.
- Willingness to work extended hours as required by project needs or weather conditions.
- Ability to travel throughout construction sites during all project phases.
- Physical capability to lift heavy objects, climb ladders, and safely navigate construction environments.
- Valid motor vehicle driving record consistent with company and insurance carrier standards.
- Proficient use of cellular and electronic communication tools to maintain contact with team members and managers.
- Demonstrated leadership and motivational skills to inspire team performance.
