Construction Safety Coordinator Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Construction Safety Coordinator to join our team on a full-time basis in San Diego, CA. As a Construction Safety Coordinator, you will play a vital role in maintaining a safe and compliant work environment for all personnel involved in commercial and industrial construction projects. You will be responsible for the implementation, management, and enforcement of safety programs, policies, and procedures across multiple job sites and project types. This position is integral to supporting our ongoing commitment to safety excellence and regulatory compliance within the construction industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement and manage safety policies and procedures on various job sites and in fabrication shops.
- Provide comprehensive safety training for all personnel, including live instruction for Competent Persons on topics such as Confined Space, Fall Protection, and Excavation and Trenching.
- Conduct and document regular site safety reviews for ongoing projects.
- Lead New Hire Orientation sessions to ensure all incoming employees understand company and regulatory safety standards.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation related to safety programs, incidents, and training records.
- Ensure consistent adherence to all relevant safety programs and policies throughout the organization.
- Conduct thorough accident investigations and report findings to the appropriate personnel.
- Promote a culture of safety through coaching, counseling, and leading by example on all job sites.
- Be available on-site during high-risk activities, such as crane operations, to ensure compliance and safety.
- Develop and foster strong relationships with clients to build trust and uphold safety standards.
- Collaborate with the Company Loss Control Team to address safety concerns and improve processes.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support safety initiatives and project success.
Qualifications & Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years experience in construction safety management, particularly on large commercial or industrial projects.
- At least 5 years of safety experience, with strong knowledge of OSHA and Cal-OSHA regulations.
- Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
- Proficiency in Office 365 applications, including Word, Excel, and email correspondence.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills to effectively interact with team members, management, and clients.
- OSHA 500 Certification is preferred, or the ability to obtain certification within 6 months of hire.
- Current First Aid/CPR training required.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
