Construction Project Manager Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated, detail-oriented Construction Project Manager to join a respected, employee-owned construction company in Los Angeles, CA. This is a full-time opportunity for an experienced professional with a strong background in commercial or public works construction projects, particularly within the K-12 education sector, DSA (Division of the State Architect) compliance, or similar fields. As a Construction Project Manager, you will play a pivotal role in leading complex construction projects from inception to completion, ensuring all project goals are met while upholding the highest standards of quality and safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the planning, execution, and completion of multiple construction projects or larger, complex projects, ensuring client expectations are understood and met throughout the process.
- Provide clear project leadership, supervision, and guidance to project teams, fostering collaboration and maintaining high performance standards.
- Establish and maintain comprehensive project document control systems, ensuring all documents are complete, accurate, current, and appropriately managed.
- Develop detailed project budgets, prepare cost proposals and change orders, and oversee buy-out/contracting processes for project work.
- Manage project accounting functions, including preparing owner billings and reviewing/approving subcontractor progress payments.
- Maintain effective cost control measures and ensure adherence to budgets throughout the life cycle of each project.
- Administer submittals, Requests for Information (RFIs), and all project documentation requirements in a timely and accurate manner.
- Develop, update, and manage CPM (Critical Path Method) project schedules, ensuring all milestones and deliverables are met on time.
- Coordinate and manage relationships with project subcontractors, including procurement of materials and equipment, monitoring budgets, and overseeing billing processes.
- Collaborate closely with project architects, designers, owners, subcontractors, and field personnel to achieve project objectives and resolve any issues.
Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated commercial or public works experience managing multiple construction projects or a single, complex project.
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, construction science, or a related industry field preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of current construction methods, materials, and applicable regulations.
- Strong organizational, communication, and teamwork skills with the ability to coordinate numerous groups and activities efficiently.
- Ability to work independently under pressure while maintaining attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and experience using MS Project or similar scheduling software.
- Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
Preferred Experience
- Experience working on school bond programs or DSA-regulated K-12 construction projects (such as SDUSD, LAUSD, etc.).
- Hands-on experience with Procore project management software.
- Previous construction management experience in the higher education or healthcare sectors.
