Construction Project Manager Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Construction Project Manager to oversee and drive commercial construction projects from inception to completion. This full-time opportunity is based in San Diego, CA, and offers a chance to work with an employee-owned company recognized as a top workplace. As a Construction Project Manager, you will collaborate with a broad team including architects, owners, subcontractors, and field personnel to ensure every project milestone is met efficiently and effectively.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the management of client expectations throughout all stages of commercial construction projects.
- Demonstrate strong project leadership and supervisory skills, guiding project teams to successful outcomes.
- Maintain project document control by ensuring all documents are complete, current, and managed appropriately.
- Prepare and manage cost proposals and change orders, ensuring alignment with project objectives and budgets.
- Develop comprehensive project budgets and handle the buy-out and contracting process for work packages.
- Oversee project accounting functions, including preparing owner billings and reviewing subcontractor progress payments.
- Maintain responsibility for budget oversight and cost control throughout the project lifecycle.
- Manage submittals, requests for information (RFIs), and all project documentation requirements.
- Develop and manage critical path method (CPM) project schedules, ensuring timely project delivery.
- Coordinate and manage subcontractors, including procurement of materials and equipment, monitoring budgets, and managing billings.
- Foster collaboration among project architects, designers, owners, subcontractors, and field staff to achieve project success.
Qualifications
- Extensive experience in managing commercial and/or public works construction projects, including multi-project oversight or management of complex, large-scale initiatives.
- Bachelor's degree in construction management, construction science, or a related field is preferred.
- Strong understanding of modern construction methods, materials, and regulatory requirements.
- Proven ability to work effectively under pressure and coordinate diverse teams to maximize efficiency.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and project scheduling software such as MS Project.
- Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving history are required.
Preferred Experience
- Experience with school bond programs (such as SDUSD, LAUSD).
- Proficiency with Procore project management software.
- Background in Higher Education or Healthcare construction sectors.
