The Construction Project Manager is responsible for overseeing all phases of complex construction projects from initiation through completion. This full-time role based in Los Angeles, CA ensures that projects adhere to quality, safety, and regulatory standards while meeting budget and schedule objectives. The Construction Project Manager is a key leadership position, directly supervising teams and coordinating with owners, architects, and subcontractors to deliver successful project outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive supervision across multiple job sites, managing projects throughout pre-construction, active construction, closeout, and post-construction phases.
- Develop, execute, and revise project work plans to accommodate evolving project requirements and objectives.
- Identify necessary resources, assign responsibilities, and ensure all project participants are aligned for maximum efficiency and productivity.
- Direct the day-to-day operational aspects of projects, including scope, scheduling, and coordination of internal and external stakeholders.
- Lead estimating and pricing activities, producing detailed estimates and implementing change pricing processes as needed.
- Review deliverables prepared by project teams prior to client submission to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with standards.
- Apply company project management methodologies to maintain and enforce consistent project standards.
- Prepare for and participate in engagement reviews and quality assurance procedures to uphold project excellence.
- Ensure all project documentation is complete, current, and appropriately stored for easy access and future reference.
- Develop logical, cost-effective project plans and schedules to maximize resource utilization and meet deadlines.
- Select, coordinate, and oversee subcontractors throughout various phases of construction, ensuring adherence to plans and specifications.
- Supervise the performance of trade contractors, and review architectural and engineering drawings to ensure compliance with all specifications and regulations.
- Administer construction contracts, secure necessary permits and licenses, and ensure proper documentation is maintained.
- Mentor and supervise Project Engineers, review progress reports, and address any safety violations or deficiencies promptly.
- Identify and mitigate potential disputes and claims arising from project design or construction activities.
- Monitor construction progress against schedules and profitability forecasts, holding regular status meetings to address any issues or delays.
- Oversee project accounting functions, including budget management, tracking team expenses, and minimizing project risks and exposures.
- Maintain strict adherence to budgetary guidelines, quality assurance, and safety standards throughout the project lifecycle.
- Provide regular progress reports to owners and architects, communicating any necessary modifications to plans or schedules.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or Construction Science from an accredited four-year program.
- At least five years of experience in assisting or supervising construction projects of increasing complexity.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure and coordinate multiple activities and diverse teams to achieve project goals.
- Proven experience developing accurate project estimates, pricing reports, and managing project budgets.
- Strong oral and written communication skills for effective collaboration with all project stakeholders.
Physical Demands
The physical requirements of the Construction Project Manager role include the ability to traverse construction sites, move through areas with construction materials, climb ladders and temporary stairways, and conduct visual inspections for quality and safety.
