Construction Project Executive Overview
The Construction Project Executive plays a pivotal leadership role in managing the day-to-day operations of commercial construction projects. This full-time position, based in San Diego, CA, is responsible for overseeing all aspects of project execution, from pre-construction through closeout, while ensuring client satisfaction, operational efficiency, and adherence to company policies. The Construction Project Executive serves as a key liaison between clients, subcontractors, and internal teams, driving project success through strategic planning, mentorship, and continuous process improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-level oversight and leadership for multiple commercial construction projects, ensuring each phase is completed on schedule and within budget.
- Enhance and maintain strong client relationships by delivering exceptional service, consistent follow-up, and successful project outcomes.
- Promote and foster positive subcontractor and vendor relationships, ensuring fair, professional interactions and instilling these values within all project teams.
- Collaborate with Estimating and Purchasing departments during the project setup phase to ensure selection of qualified subcontractors, project profitability, and client satisfaction.
- Mentor, coach, and develop project team members by setting annual performance goals and facilitating ongoing professional growth opportunities.
- Identify and pursue new business development opportunities within the construction industry and related service sectors.
- Formulate, review, and communicate contract terms to clients and project teams, ensuring clear understanding and compliance.
- Develop and communicate effective project strategies, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and client expectations.
- Ensure compliance with all company policies, procedures, and safety standards across all assigned projects.
- Guide operational activities for multiple projects, including pre-construction, construction, closeout, and post-construction services.
- Proactively identify and mitigate potential risks to client operations or project delivery.
- Review and approve monthly status reports, project estimates, project schedules, and critical documentation for assigned projects.
- Oversee subcontractor bidding and negotiation processes, ensuring alignment with company protocols and project requirements.
- Ensure that project scheduling and cost control procedures are followed and maintained throughout the project lifecycle.
- Lead project mobilization and setup, making certain each project is adequately staffed and resourced.
- Recruit, train, and supervise personnel, providing ongoing mentorship and support to build a high-performing team.
- Monitor project financials to maintain positive cash flow and ensure timely progress payments and accurate management reporting.
- Assist clients in contract negotiations and provide support to client legal teams as necessary.
- Attend and actively participate in meetings with clients, architects, and contractors to ensure all parties remain aligned throughout the project.
- Conduct regular jobsite walks to ensure safety, quality, and compliance with all project requirements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, construction science, or a related field required.
- At least 10 years of progressive experience managing complex commercial construction projects, including supervisory responsibilities.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple activities and teams, working under pressure to achieve optimal efficiency and successful project delivery.
