Construction Project Engineer Job Overview
The Construction Project Engineer plays a key role in supporting the planning, coordination, and management of commercial construction projects. This full-time position is vital in ensuring that project objectives are met with a strong focus on quality, cost, and schedule. As a Construction Project Engineer, you will work closely with project managers and other team members to support project delivery from initial design through completion. This includes managing project documentation, facilitating communication between stakeholders, and assisting with technical and administrative functions to ensure successful project outcomes. Key Responsibilities
- Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, proposals, and related construction documents to ensure accuracy in project implementation.
- Perform quantity take-offs and cost estimating for both self-performed and subcontracted work, supporting the project budget and bid preparation process.
- Conduct and manage project scheduling activities, ensuring project milestones and deadlines are met.
- Gather and analyze quotes from subcontractors and material suppliers to facilitate cost-effective and timely procurement.
- Administer the preparation and management of owner and subcontractor billings, as well as processing pay applications and change orders.
- Manage and process submittals and Requests for Information (RFIs) to ensure seamless project documentation flow and resolution of project discrepancies.
- Analyze alternative construction methods and solutions to improve overall project efficiency and effectiveness.
- Coordinate and supervise subcontractors and material suppliers, maintaining communication and adherence to project requirements.
- Support the review and approval of design and construction drawings and bid documents as directed by the project manager.
- Resolve discrepancies by collecting, analyzing, and presenting necessary project information to stakeholders.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Strong understanding of regulatory construction standards and industry best practices.
- Proficiency in mathematics and technology tools such as Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Project, Outlook), Sage 100, Procore, and Bluebeam.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to facilitate collaboration and clear information exchange among project participants.
- Demonstrated ability to facilitate teams, deliver information resourcefully, and represent the company professionally in public settings.
- Knowledge of commercial construction estimating, project administration, means and methods, and an understanding of LEED certifications is highly desirable.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Adaptability to changing priorities and evolving project requirements while remaining committed to team goals.
- Capability to manage and schedule tasks efficiently while exhibiting accountability and a commitment to high-quality work.
- Valid driver's license and a good driving record, as occasional travel may be required.
Education and Experience
- 0-3 years of experience in construction-related roles is preferred.
- Experience working with CCSD (school district) projects is required.
- Completion of previous college coursework, a degree program, or certification in a construction-related field is preferred.
- Any equivalent combination of education and experience, as determined by management, will be considered.
