Construction Estimator Position OverviewThe Construction Estimator plays a critical role in the success of custom residential building projects by preparing accurate and comprehensive cost estimates. This full-time position is based in San Diego, CA, and focuses on supporting residential construction initiatives from the initial planning stages through final project delivery. As a Construction Estimator, you will work collaboratively with various project stakeholders, including project managers, architects, engineers, and subcontractors, to ensure that all cost projections are aligned with client expectations and project requirements. The role is essential for maintaining cost efficiency, upholding quality standards, and supporting the overall mission of delivering exceptional residential properties.
Key Responsibilities- Review project plans, specifications, and drawings to gain a thorough understanding of project scope and requirements for custom residential construction.
- Quantify materials, labor, and other resources required for each project based on detailed plans and specifications.
- Prepare detailed cost estimates, including material take-offs, labor calculations, subcontractor bids, and overhead expenses.
- Analyze project constraints to identify opportunities for cost savings, value engineering, and efficient resource allocation.
- Collaborate with project managers, architects, engineers, and subcontractors to gather essential information needed for accurate cost projections.
- Evaluate supplier and subcontractor bids, negotiate pricing, and foster strong professional relationships to secure competitive costs and maintain quality standards.
- Update and maintain cost databases, pricing catalogs, and historical records to ensure ongoing accuracy and reliability in the estimating process.
- Present cost estimates to clients, providing clear explanations and justifications for proposed expenses as needed.
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience as an estimator within the construction industry, with a preference for residential construction expertise.
- Strong working knowledge of construction methods, materials, and modern cost estimating techniques.
- Proficiency in industry-standard estimating software, as well as MS Office Suite applications.
- Exceptional analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills to ensure accuracy and efficiency in cost projections.
- Meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to thoroughness in quantifying and assessing all project costs.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills, enabling effective collaboration and stakeholder engagement.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Familiarity with current building codes, regulations, and industry standards relevant to residential construction.
