Construction Estimator Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Construction Estimator to join our team on a full-time basis in Colorado Springs, CO. The Construction Estimator will play a vital role in supporting company initiatives, cultivating client relationships, and delivering accurate project cost estimates for commercial construction projects. This position requires a strong understanding of construction industry standards and practices, as well as expertise in preconstruction, value engineering, and the use of estimating software. As a Construction Estimator, you will work closely with project managers, clients, architects, engineers, and subcontractors to ensure project feasibility, quality, and success.
Responsibilities
- Professionally represent the company and support strategic initiatives in the commercial construction market.
- Build and maintain positive long-term relationships with internal customers, business partners, owners, architects, engineers, and subcontractors.
- Execute company policies and procedures, embracing a lean culture and work environment.
- Engage in client pursuits, requests for proposals (RFPs), and interviews to promote the company to external stakeholders.
- Assume responsibility for large, complex projects, overseeing all preconstruction activities and ensuring contractual requirements are met.
- Lead estimating processes, including advertising, prequalification, solicitation and evaluation of subcontractor bids, and award recommendations.
- Plan and schedule preconstruction efforts, identifying estimate milestones, durations, and long lead items.
- Collaborate with owners, architects/engineers, and subcontractors to resolve technical matters and provide data on project feasibility.
- Organize and guide the departmental estimating team, ensuring all responsibilities and deadlines are met.
- Mentor junior estimators in all aspects of the preconstruction process.
- Prepare estimates for all stages of design, including conceptual, design/build, guaranteed maximum price, and hard bid projects.
- Perform value engineering and life-cycle costing analyses to optimize project value and efficiency.
- Develop and write bid packages and subcontractor scopes of work.
- Participate in subcontract award processes and prepare subcontracts for handover to the construction team.
- Demonstrate strong presentation and sales skills during RFP/interview processes.
- Comply with company safety policies and use prescribed safety equipment on the jobsite.
- Adhere to company alcohol and drug use policies as a safety-sensitive position.
- Maintain in-person, predictable attendance at assigned locations in Colorado Springs, CO.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Three to five years of experience in construction management or as a general contractor.
- Proven accomplishments in leadership and communication, supported by verifiable references.
Skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
- Experienced in the use of estimating software.
- Ability to read construction drawings and specifications.
- Strong understanding of commercial construction industry practices, standards, and costs.
- Skilled in project budgeting, vendor selection, client proposals, and owner/architect/general contractor collaboration.
- Excellent organizational, multi-tasking, and planning abilities.
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated customer service orientation.
