Construction Estimator Job Overview
The Construction Estimator plays a crucial role in supporting the preconstruction process, ensuring accurate cost estimation and successful project planning. As a full-time Construction Estimator in Denver, CO, you will be responsible for developing project estimates, cultivating positive business relationships, and providing oversight throughout all stages of project design and bidding. This position is essential for maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and efficiency in commercial construction projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a professional representative of the company, supporting strategic business initiatives and maintaining the company's reputation.
- Establish and nurture positive, long-term relationships with internal teams, clients, business partners, owners, architects, engineers, and subcontractors.
- Adhere to and implement company policies and procedures, embracing a lean culture and work environment.
- Engage in client pursuits, respond to RFPs, and participate in interviews to promote company services to external partners.
- Take primary responsibility for large and complex projects during the preconstruction phase, ensuring all contractual requirements and milestones are met.
- Oversee all aspects of preconstruction, including estimates, schedules, constructability reviews, value engineering, and cost report planning.
- Lead and organize estimating teams, clearly communicating responsibilities and deadlines to ensure successful project outcomes.
- Mentor and teach junior estimators, sharing expertise in all aspects of the preconstruction process.
- Prepare estimates throughout all stages of design, from conceptual plans to final construction documents, including design/build, GMP, and hard bid projects.
- Develop, write, and manage bid packages and subcontractor scopes of work, collaborating with project managers during subcontract awards.
- Participate in value engineering and life-cycle costing to provide clients with cost-effective solutions.
- Present project proposals and company capabilities to clients and participate in interview teams as needed.
- Comply with safety protocols, using prescribed safety equipment and adhering to company alcohol and drug policies.
- Maintain predictable, in-person attendance at the assigned Denver, CO location.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field is required.
- At least three to five years of experience in Construction Management or as a General Contractor.
- Strong references that demonstrate leadership, communication skills, and exceptional project accomplishments.
Skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel, as well as estimating software relevant to the commercial construction industry.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
- Comprehensive knowledge of construction costs, project budgeting, vendor selection, client proposals, and industry standards.
- Strong organizational, multitasking, and planning abilities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a customer service-oriented mindset.
