Construction Estimator Job OverviewWe are seeking a skilled Construction Estimator to join a leading commercial painting and reconstruction contractor based in Carlsbad, CA. This full-time opportunity is ideal for professionals who excel at preparing accurate estimates for conceptual and large-scale construction projects. The Construction Estimator plays a critical role in the bidding process, providing both conceptual and final estimates for construction management (CM) or general contracting (GC) projects. This position requires strong collaboration with project owners, architects, engineers, and contractors to resolve technical and value engineering issues throughout the negotiation and contract execution phases.
Key Responsibilities- Develop a thorough understanding of project and program requirements to accurately assess needs and constraints.
- Select and apply appropriate metrics to produce reliable and valid cost estimates for a variety of construction projects.
- Conduct site visits, as well as visits to warehouses and other relevant venues, in order to gather essential data and support the preparation of comprehensive estimates.
- Review project documents and consult with subject matter experts to collect all necessary technical and logistical information.
- Analyze collected data and produce detailed cost forecasts, identifying potential risks and factors that may impact project scope or budget.
- Perform risk analysis to ensure that all aspects of the project are accounted for and that estimates reflect potential challenges.
- Prepare and compile detailed reports and bids for submission to clients, internal teams, and other stakeholders.
- Evaluate offers and quotes, selecting the most advantageous deals to support project goals and financial objectives.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with key vendors, including subcontractors and architects, to facilitate a smooth project workflow.
- Bachelor's degree in construction, engineering, or a related technical field, or an equivalent combination of education, technical training, and relevant experience.
- Three to eight years of experience in estimating, cost control, or engineering roles, with at least four years focused on construction estimating in similar facility construction settings.
- Proven ability to coordinate and lead group efforts, demonstrating excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Proficient in the use of computers and able to quickly learn and apply departmental software and systems relevant to construction estimating.
- Technical knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems, as well as structural and architectural disciplines, is highly desirable. Familiarity with code and regulatory issues is preferred.
