Construction Estimator Job OverviewThe Construction Estimator plays a key role in supporting the preconstruction phase of projects, ensuring that all cost estimation and quantity surveying activities are executed with accuracy and efficiency. Based in San Diego, CA, this full-time position offers the opportunity to join a team recognized for its commitment to safety, sustainability, and community partnership. The Construction Estimator collaborates with internal teams, owners, architects, and subcontractors to develop detailed project estimates and foster strong working relationships throughout the construction process.
Responsibilities- Prepare consistently accurate and detailed quantity surveys for assigned projects, ensuring that all estimates reflect the scope and specifications provided.
- Conduct independent research to obtain relevant information related to specified items, with a focus on quantifying materials and soliciting subcontractor proposals.
- Develop complete project cost estimate packages for projects up to $5 million, adapting approach based on project complexity and requirements.
- Attend preconstruction meetings to acquire project information and gain exposure to client and architect interactions, contributing to the overall project planning process.
- Develop awareness of the local subcontractor community, evaluating capabilities of subcontractors during the solicitation process to ensure alignment with project needs.
- Communicate project scope clearly and effectively with subcontractors during the solicitation process, fostering transparent and productive discussions regarding proposals.
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure a thorough understanding of project documents, plans, and specifications, supporting the overall success of the project.
- Bachelor's degree in a construction-related field.
- Excellent listening and communication skills, essential for interacting with clients, architects, and subcontractors.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, as well as estimating software such as Timberline or similar, and scheduling software such as Primavera or similar.
- Strong attention to detail and resourcefulness in acquiring project-specific information and supporting documentation.
- Demonstrated strong work ethic and ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
- Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines, maintaining high-quality standards across all assignments.
- Flexibility to work extended hours as needed to meet project or proposal deadlines.
