Commissioning Engineer (CxA) - Summary
- Serve as the primary point of contact for commissioning activities on mechanical building systems
- Utilize your expertise in mechanical engineering and building systems to deliver high-quality commissioning services
- Collaborate with project teams, clients, and other stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery
Duties & Responsibilities
- Manage and execute commissioning processes for new and existing commercial facilities, including HVAC, plumbing, piping, fire protection, electrical, technology, instrumentation and controls, and lighting systems
- Conduct thorough reviews of design documents, specifications, and submittals to ensure compliance with project requirements
- Develop and implement commissioning plans, checklists, and functional performance testing protocols
- Perform field inspections, testing, and verification of installed systems to confirm proper operation and integration
- Document commissioning findings, generate comprehensive reports, and provide actionable recommendations for system optimization
- Engage in retro-commissioning and ongoing monitoring-based commissioning to improve existing building performance
- Facilitate communication and coordination among project stakeholders through effective oral presentations and written correspondence
- Maintain strong client relationships and uphold high standards of service quality and professionalism
- Utilize advanced software tools, data loggers, and measurement equipment to support commissioning activities
- Support project management activities as required, including scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation

Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field
- Certified Commissioning Agent (CxA) through ACG, ASHRAE, or BCA required
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical design and commissioning for commercial buildings
- Active driver’s license and reliable vehicle required
- Proficiency in building system disciplines such as HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire protection, and controls
- Practical knowledge in the use of software applications and test equipment relevant to commissioning
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities
- Experience working with consulting engineering firms preferred
- Project management experience is a plus
