Commissioning Engineer (CxA) Position Overview
The Commissioning Engineer (CxA) plays a crucial role in ensuring the optimal performance and compliance of mechanical systems within commercial buildings. This full-time position is responsible for overseeing and executing all phases of the commissioning process for new and existing facilities. The Commissioning Engineer (CxA) works closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality results, focusing on mechanical design, system integration, and project management. Key Responsibilities
- Lead the commissioning process for mechanical systems in commercial buildings, including HVAC, plumbing, piping, fire protection, electrical, technology, instrumentation, controls, process, and lighting systems.
- Conduct functional performance testing, verification, and documentation to ensure systems operate according to design intent and client requirements.
- Work collaboratively with consulting engineers, contractors, and clients to resolve issues and optimize system performance throughout all project phases.
- Prepare and deliver detailed commissioning reports and written communications, presenting findings and recommendations to project stakeholders.
- Oversee retro-commissioning and monitor-based commissioning activities to improve energy efficiency and system reliability in existing buildings.
- Utilize computer software, data loggers, and test and measurement equipment to analyze system performance and troubleshoot technical issues.
- Maintain strong client relationships through effective communication, project updates, and responsive service.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritizing tasks and maintaining high standards of organization and detail.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field.
- Certified Commissioning Agent (CxA) through ACG, ASHRAE, or BCA.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical design for commercial building projects, including both new construction and existing facilities.
- Demonstrated experience with building envelope commissioning and monitor-based commissioning practices.
- Functional knowledge of multidisciplinary building systems and the ability to integrate and coordinate across disciplines.
- Proficient in core computer applications, including MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Outlook, with the ability to learn new technologies as needed.
- Active driver's license and access to a vehicle required for site visits and project meetings.
- Preferred: Project management experience in the building systems or construction industry.
