CNC Machinist - Summary
The CNC Machinist is responsible for the precise setup, programming, and operation of CNC machinery to manufacture complex metal and composite parts according to engineering specifications and blueprints. This role requires a high degree of technical skill, attention to detail, and adherence to safety and quality protocols. The CNC Machinist collaborates with engineering, quality assurance, and production teams to ensure all parts are produced within required tolerances and delivered on schedule. Duties & Responsibilities
- Set up and operate CNC machines such as mills and lathes to machine complex parts, weldments, and castings.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and manufacturing specifications.
- Utilize strong knowledge of GD&T (geometric dimensioning and tolerancing) to ensure precision machining.
- Perform CNC warmup procedures and basic preventative machine maintenance to ensure operational readiness and longevity of equipment.
- Use a variety of precision measuring instruments, including micrometers, calipers, and height gauges, to verify complex part dimensions.
- Perform setups and create fixtures to facilitate efficient and accurate machining operations.
- Apply G-Code knowledge and basic machine programming skills to run CNC programs and make necessary adjustments for tight tolerance holding.
- Conduct tapping, counterboring, countersinking, and reaming operations, as well as some deburring and preparation for inspections.
- Understand the effects of thermal expansion on machined parts and make compensations where necessary.
- Maintain shop cleanliness and participate in manual machine operations as needed.
- Accept and incorporate frequent supervision and feedback regarding machine setups, operations, and part loading.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years of experience operating CNC machines, including mills and/or lathes.
- Strong understanding of GD&T and its application in precision machining.
- Proven ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and manufacturing specifications.
- Preferred experience with precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and height gauges.
- Familiarity with AS9100, ISO 9001, or other aerospace quality systems is highly desirable.
- Experience with multi-axis machining is a plus.
- Ability to perform simple mathematical calculations and use basic hand-held measuring tools.
- Demonstrated dependability in attendance and completion of assigned work.
