CNC Machinist Job Overview
The CNC Machinist position is responsible for independently setting up and operating a variety of CNC machines, including Mill Turn, Swiss, CNC Mill, and CNC Lathes, with minimal supervision. This full-time opportunity requires proficiency in advanced machining operations and the ability to uphold high-quality production standards. The CNC Machinist will play a key role in ensuring that precision manufacturing processes are conducted efficiently and in compliance with exacting drawing requirements. This role is designed for experienced professionals who are adept at troubleshooting, program interpretation, and equipment maintenance, ensuring reliable production output and quality.
Key Responsibilities
- Independently set up and operate multiple CNC machines, including Mill Turn, Swiss, CNC Mill, and CNC Lathes, while following supervisor or lead instructions.
- Perform precise setups, including 4th axis operations, and adjust machine feed and speed to achieve required surface finishes.
- Make necessary adjustments to tool offsets and cutter diameter compensation to meet drawing tolerances of +/-.0005.
- Inspect first-piece articles, interpret and understand CNC programs, and ensure all work meets strict quality standards.
- Remove worn cutting tools, re-grind tools to conform to project specifications, and replace as needed for continued operation.
- Check parts consistently during production to maintain quality and minimize discrepant work.
- Train and assist other team members as needed, sharing expertise to support ongoing team development.
- Perform regular manual tasks and maintain a high level of productivity, meeting or exceeding expected output levels.
- Adapt to changing priorities, perform additional essential duties as assigned, and fill in for area leads when required.
- Conduct all activities in a professional and courteous manner, contributing positively to the work environment.
- Demonstrate flexibility by working overtime or traveling if required by production needs.
Qualifications
- Extensive experience setting up and operating CNC machinery, including Mill Turn, Swiss, CNC Mill, and CNC Lathes.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and CNC programs.
- Ability to perform precision measurements and maintain tight tolerances (+/-.0005).
- Competence in tool maintenance, including removal, re-grinding, and replacement of cutting tools.
- Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to follow supervisor or lead direction.
- Demonstrated commitment to quality, productivity, and teamwork.
- Willingness to train or assist teammates and adapt to evolving shop requirements.
Preferred Experience
- For internal candidates: At least 12 months of experience as a Level 5 Operator is required.
