Clinical Perfusionist (ABCP Certified) - Summary

Duties & Responsibilities
- Operate and manage heart-lung machines and extracorporeal circulation equipment during open-heart and transplant procedures.
- Assemble, prime, test, and maintain perfusion circuits prior to the initiation of bypass.
- Adjust perfusion parameters throughout procedures based on patient physiology.
- Administer medications, blood components, and anesthetic agents via the extracorporeal circuit as required.
- Perform advanced blood therapies such as PRP, platelet gel, hemofiltration, and autotransfusion.
- Monitor equipment operation, obtain intraoperative blood samples, and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
- Disassemble, clean, and maintain perfusion equipment after procedures.
- Maintain inventory of supplies and coordinate with internal departments for operational needs.
- Participate in departmental meetings, quality improvement initiatives, and ongoing professional education.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- ABCP (American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion) Certification required.
- Active New York State Licensure mandatory.
- 1–3 years of clinical perfusion experience, with preferred exposure to transplant and ECMO cases.
