Civil Construction Estimator
The Civil Construction Estimator plays a vital role in the successful bidding and management of site work, utilities, drainage systems, and road construction projects. With a strong foundation in civil construction estimating, this position is responsible for evaluating project drawings, preparing comprehensive cost estimates, and ensuring the accuracy and competitiveness of project bids. The Civil Construction Estimator collaborates closely with project managers, engineers, and field teams to deliver high-quality, cost-effective solutions that align with company objectives and client expectations. In this role, the Civil Construction Estimator will leverage their expertise to analyze project requirements, assess risks, and develop estimates for projects typically ranging from $500,000 to $10 million. Utilizing industry-standard software, such as Agtek, Trimble Business Center, Carlson, and Cad, as well as proficiency in Excel, Word, and Adobe, the estimator will accurately price labor, equipment, and materials required for self-performed work. Candidates are expected to have experience working for a general contractor, with a proven track record of successfully bidding on complex site work projects.
Excellent communication skills are essential, as the estimator will be responsible for interpreting conceptual and schematic drawings, producing final contract estimates, and presenting value-engineering alternatives. The ability to identify constructability issues and assess site exposures is critical in ensuring that all cost considerations and construction risks are addressed within each estimate. The Civil Construction Estimator will also contribute to team discussions, collaborate on project strategies, and support continuous improvement initiatives within the organization.
This position requires a four-year degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field, along with at least two years of relevant experience. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of construction assemblies, project phases, and the unique challenges associated with grading, utilities, site development, industrial, commercial development, mining reclamation, and overburden removal. A valid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record are mandatory for this role, as occasional travel may be required.
The work environment for the Civil Construction Estimator is typically indoors, with a moderate noise level. Physical demands include the ability to sit or stand for extended periods, occasional stooping, bending, walking, crouching, and climbing, as well as frequent lifting of at least 50 lbs. and carrying up to 15 lbs.
