The role of Chief Engineer is central to the smooth and safe operation of any facility, particularly in environments where plant maintenance, equipment reliability, and regulatory compliance are critical. As a Chief Engineer, you will take the lead in managing the physical infrastructure and technical operations, ensuring that all aspects of the facility, including buildings, grounds, and equipment, are maintained at optimal levels. This full-time position requires a combination of technical expertise, leadership ability, and a proactive approach to problem-solving in order to meet both operational and financial objectives.

In this Chief Engineer position, you will be responsible for organizing, directing, and executing maintenance programs to support the long-term sustainability of the facility. You will coordinate activities with various departments, such as engineering, transportation, and security, to ensure a safe and efficient work environment. By planning and overseeing these functions, you will help the organization adhere to budgetary constraints and regulatory requirements. A strong emphasis will be placed on maintaining positive working relationships with management, committees, and staff, as well as fostering a collaborative team environment.

Your leadership will be instrumental in overseeing the safety and functionality of all operating equipment within the plant. This includes developing comprehensive training programs for staff in both standard operating and emergency procedures, as well as handling the procurement of repair parts needed for routine, preventative, and emergency maintenance. Cultivating and maintaining vendor relationships will be a key component of your role, ensuring that the facility has access to high-quality parts and service as needed.

As Chief Engineer, you will also be responsible for developing and managing a plant-wide preventative maintenance schedule that addresses all building systems, process equipment, and utilities. Effective budget management will be essential, with a focus on controlling costs related to parts, supplies, and labor. You will ensure full compliance with wastewater and emissions standards, safeguarding both the environment and the organization’s reputation. Additionally, you will oversee the work of outside contractors involved in repairs and upkeep, and may be called upon to assist with off-site projects, plant startups, and other special initiatives.

To excel in the Chief Engineer role, candidates should possess a Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent military experience, with a preference for those who have demonstrated strong communication, multitasking, and leadership abilities. The successful candidate will have the technical skills to read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and plumbing blueprints, as well as proficiency in Microsoft Office and other Windows-based software tools. A thorough understanding of plant maintenance, including electrical systems, boilers, hydraulics, compressed air, and mechanical equipment, is essential.

Candidates with military backgrounds, particularly those who have held relevant technical ranks or roles in the Navy or Coast Guard, are highly encouraged to apply. These transferrable skills are valued for their rigorous training in electrical, mechanical, and operational systems. This is an exciting opportunity for those looking to leverage their technical expertise and leadership skills in a challenging and rewarding environment.
